A Bronx Tale Broadway Musical Tickets – Popular musical, all information & schedule. A Bronx Tale is a polished and classical piece of Broadway musical theater. The stage production is based on the successful 1993 book and solo stage play by Chazz Palminteri. Later, the tale was adapted into a film directed by Robert De Niro and starring both De Niro and Palminteri. Indeed, A Bronx Tale has captivated audiences across generations and continues to attract new fans on Broadway.

The story is a loosely autobiographical tale of Palminteri’s experience growing up in a predominately Italian-American part of the Bronx. The tale begins when the main character, Calogero, witnesses a shooting by the neighborhood’s most feared resident. Fearing payback, he later refuses to identify him to police. The shooter, Sonny, then takes Calogero under his wing – a move which terrifies the boy’s father. Consequently, Calogero faces the struggle between success in the mob scene and loyalty to his father. The play handles these issues with a lot of heart, often bringing audiences to tears. Furthermore, the play confronts issues of race as Italian-American Calogero falls for black schoolmate Jane.

A Bronx Tale is lightened considerably in this fantastic musical version, as the doo-wop score brings rhythm to the scenes. Written by Alan Menken (f Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin) and Glenn Slater, the score mixes traditional musical ballads with Motown and early rock ‘n’ roll influences. This music adds energy to A Bronx Tale and frames the tense scenes beautifully.

New York to the core, A Bronx Tale will capture the heart of anyone who grew up in the city. However, you don’t need to be a native New Yorker to appreciate the play. Its emphasis on family and loyalty will make it ring true to audiences of all backgrounds and ages.
