Marnie is a brand new Metropolitan Opera production by composer Nico Muhly and librettist Nicholas Wright, which begins October 19, 2018 until November 10, 2019. A reimagining of Winston Graham’s novel, it’s set in the 1950s and follows the story of Marnie, a young and beautiful woman who must face the consequences of her behaviour after repeatedly changing her identity and embezzling from her employers. The lead role is sung by mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard, alongside baritone Christopher Maltman and conductor Robert Spano. Director Michael Mayer and his creative team have devised a fast-moving, cinematic world for this exhilarating story of denial and deceit, which also inspired a film by Alfred Hitchcock. Mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard sings the enigmatic Marnie, and baritone Christopher Maltman is the man who pursues her—with disastrous results. Robert Spano conducts.
