Tom Stoppard’s Travesties is coming back to Broadway, with actor Tom Hollander reprising his starring role from London’s West End in a production directed by Patrick Marber. Travesties, which won a Tony Award for Best Play in 1976, is set chiefly in Zurich during the First World War. It follows the story of Henry Carr as he remembers his interactions with James Joyce, Lenin, and Tristan Tzara, with themes of art, revolution and war set within a production of The Importance Of Being Earnest. The New York Times called it a ‘near-miraculous production’ of ‘mind-bending splendor’. Opening at the Roundabout’s American Airlines Theater on April 24, it’s a must-see.
