Wicked is as Wicked does, and after ten years on the stage, Wicked is doing better than ever on Broadway! If you’ve ever wondered if the witches in the Wizard of Oz had a back story, this is the show for you.

Surpassing Beauty and the Beast as one of the longest-running shows on Broadway, Wicked combines the fantasy of all the Oz characters with a humanization of the young ladies who ultimately become wicked and good witches.

Yes, we follow them from their schoolgirl days, where we see the events that formed their respective characters of good and evil. It’s a complicated set of family and magical relationships that illustrates many of the difficulties that young people today face, from broken hearts and disabled bodies to bad skin and petty adolescent jealousies. Wicked will have you so entranced with this transformational tale that you’ll barely notice that you’ve arrived in Oz!

Look, up in the air! Witches and monkeys, oh my! Never fear, Oz fans; Wicked will show you flying monkeys, a scarecrow, a man made of tin and an adorable lion cub and the special effects deliver more than just smoke and mirrors. The Art Deco Emerald City is to die for and the gravity-defying flying effects are far beyond anything Peter Pan ever imagined. From the first act in which the wicked green witch of the west does a gravity-defying lift from the Emerald Palace, the Wicked audience is entranced by the magic of levitation.

With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and story by Winnie Holzman, Wicked has been raking in Tony Awards since its Broadway debut in 2003 and has developed a fan base that borders on fanaticism. No matter which performance you choose, you’ll find yourself in the company of many theatre goers who know the words to all the wonderful songs. Chances are you won’t be able to get the words of “No One Mourns the Wicked” out of your head for weeks after you leave the theatre.
